History of Stenson Boatbuilders

Eddie & Marion purchased Stenson Marina in 1986 and with their two sons Dean and Paul have built up a diverse business providing facilities and service for Inland Boaters and hopefully future enthusiasts visiting the Trent & Mersey Canal at Stenson.
Eddie's engineering and marine experience has been extended with Dean's skill in steelwork fabrication and Paul's experience in all of the marine engineering and electrical systems which todays craft rely on.
The family firm were involved with the formation of the Canal Boatbuilders Association and instrumental with the implementation of the Recreational Craft Directive. The business has always been keen to promote the craft skills which have been seen in the canal industry over the last 200 years and still campaign for the training of school leavers so that the industry can pass on the heritage of our unique canal industry.

Apart from building traditional canal boats, Stenson Boatbuilders have been involved with some interesting projects including original 'hybrid' diesel electric boat for British Waterways, futeristic narrowboat used in Ideal Home Exhibition, unique Docklands passenger craft with electric Aziprop drive, sea-going craft with electric Aziprop drive and various corporate craft for City Institutions. The development of CAD/ CNC both in our steel and wood workshops means that Senson Boatbuilders can compete in both National and International markets.
